The Gambia submitted its reply to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in its case against Myanmar for the alleged genocide of the Rohingya, according to a statement from State House.
The Gambia underscored the substantial volume of reliable and credible evidence presented to the Court, confirming Myanmar’s responsibility for committing acts of genocide against the Rohingya community.
The statement also expressed The Gambia’s deep concern over recent violence and destruction in northern Rakhine State, which has reportedly displaced thousands of civilians, including many Rohingya.
“The Gambia is alarmed by recent reports of forced conscription of Rohingya civilians and efforts by the Myanmar military to incite intercommunal tensions and violence between Rohingya and Rakhine people. The Gambia calls on all actors to protect civilians, ensure unhindered access to humanitarian assistance, comply with international human rights and humanitarian law, and hold accountable those who violate international law,” the statement said.
The Gambia reaffirmed its commitment to promoting justice and accountability for the Rohingya and expressed gratitude for the support from many Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
