After a period of delay, the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) is scheduled to hold its much-anticipated congress this Saturday.
The NPP is one of four political parties that requested an extension from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to organize its mandatory biannual congress. The IEC’s decision to grant the extension sparked criticism from the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP), which accused the commission of bias.
NPP Deputy Spokesman Seedy Njie confirmed that the congress would take place in Soma and span a single day. The event will be graced by the presence of party leader and President Adama Barrow.
The congress agenda includes the presentation of both administrative and financial reports, along with speeches by key party officials, including the National President, Youth President, Women Mobiliser, and the Party Leader.
This congress is expected to serve as a platform for the NPP to outline its achievements and strategies while fostering unity and momentum within its ranks.
