Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow has praised the government of Ghana for its unwavering support and assistance to The Gambia’s judiciary, especially during critical times. While presiding over the swearing-in of Justice Sarah Aryee, Chief Justice Jallow expressed gratitude for Ghana’s continued contribution.

“Her Ladyship is the latest in a long line of distinguished Ghanaian jurists who have served with distinction across all levels of The Gambia’s judiciary,” he noted. This includes roles as Chief Justice, Justices of the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the High Court, and in the Magistracy.

Justice Aryee joins The Gambia’s judiciary after a notable career in Ghana, where she served on the High Court Bench in Accra following years of successful private legal practice. Chief Justice Jallow praised her established reputation as a diligent and firm judge and congratulated her on her appointment as a High Court Judge in The Gambia, wishing her a successful tenure.

Chief Justice Jallow addressed the ongoing public concern regarding delays in the judicial process, emphasizing the necessity for the judiciary to be responsive and implement effective measures to expedite case hearings and determinations. “Justice delayed is justice denied,” he stated, highlighting the constitutional guarantee of timely case resolution.

He acknowledged that some delays are inherent and unavoidable due to the nature of the judicial process, such as the need for thorough research, reflection, and judgement writing. However, he called on all stakeholders, including judges, magistrates, lawyers, prosecutors, litigants, and witnesses, to enhance their diligence to minimize avoidable delays.

“We must strive to expedite cases and give real meaning to our commitment to deliver quality justice promptly,” he asserted. Chief Justice Jallow urged the Bar, both public and private, to fulfill their roles effectively to ensure the judicial process is efficient and not a source of frustration.

In conclusion, Chief Justice Jallow reiterated the judiciary’s dedication to overcoming challenges and delivering justice expeditiously, with the continued support and collaboration of all stakeholders.
