Breathing Easy: Ministry Issues Health Advisory Amid Lingering Dust Conditions

Actualité

Amid persistent dust conditions in the Greater Banjul Area and surrounding areas, the Ministry of Health issued a public alert yesterday, emphasizing potential health risks. In a Facebook statement, the ministry highlighted the hazards of prolonged dust exposure, citing the risk of chronic respiratory and lung issues, as well as the potential for heart disease.

The statement further explained that the finer particles in the airborne dust have the capacity to infiltrate the lower respiratory tract and enter the bloodstream, posing a threat to internal organs and contributing to cardiovascular disorders, including the possibility of paralysis.

To safeguard against these health risks, the ministry provided recommendations: individuals are advised to stay indoors as much as possible, especially those with underlying health conditions; use masks for protection; wear glasses when outdoors; and maintain hydration by consuming ample water.

Addressing road users, the ministry urged caution to mitigate the risk of accidents arising from reduced visibility during these challenging weather conditions.
